1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Join the Reading Farm! Greenfield Public Library is excited to have our own 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program (1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a registered trademark of the 1000 Books Foundation, used with permission).

Program Overview

This program is a free, nationwide challenge to get parents, guardians, and caregivers reading to young children. By reading with your child, you are promoting early literacy development, forming bonds with your child, and encouraging a lifelong relationship with books and reading.

How It Works

  • Children from birth to kindergarten may sign up.
  • Sign up at the library or by filling out the registration form below.
  • Pick up your welcome bag at the library (includes log, informational, sheets, and reading list) or download the reading logs from this page.
    • Color in a barn for each book read (including repeat reads and books read at storytime, daycare, etc.).
    • Children can color a tracker that we will display on our Reading Farm Wall.
  • After each 100 books read, stop in the library to receive a small prize and move your tracker to the next spot.
  • At completion your little reader will receive a certificate of completion for their amazing accomplishment.

It may sound daunting to read 1,000 books in about 5 years, but if you read a book a night it will take three years. Or if you read three books a day it will take less than a year! Happy reading!

If you haven't already, check out the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Children 5 and under in Adair county can get a free book a month through this program, these two program are a perfect pairing! Learn more here.

Signup by visiting the library or registering below. Welcome bags (with logs) can be picked up at the library or logs can be downloaded below.
